Description

Le Vivier is proud to present, in collaboration with the Festival Accès Asie et Innovations ienconcert, pianist Minna Re Shin, violist Jennifer Thiessen and percussionist Ben Reimer of the Park Sounds Duo.

For their first collaboration, they will perform a program based on music inspired by folklore, poetry, literature and painting. In his suite for piano Impressions of Paintings by Higashiyama Kaii, Wang Lisan accompanies each movement of a poem that corresponds to a landscape painting by this Japanese artist. A poem by Emily Dickinson gives its title to A Bird Is Down The Walk by Toru Takemitsu, while TigranMansurian mixes Armenian traditions and European modernism. The Canadian composer Vincent Ho, in Kickin ’It 2.0, combines improvisation, jazz, gamelan music and Chinese popular music. This is a version for viola, piano, and percussion that will be premièred during the evening. Each composer’s origins inspires a fusion of Eastern and Western musical traditions in creating this memorable event.
